Ikom LG Chairman Charge Council Staff To Show More Commitment And Positive Work Ethics During NULGE Visit
Ikom Local Government Council, the Executive Chairman of Council, Hon. Pst. [Mrs] Mercy Nsor has charged Council Staff to show more commitment, efforts, and positive work ethics in the course of their duties, at all times.
The Chairman, while receiving the State leadership of the Nigeria Union Of Local Government Employees [NULGE], during a courtesy visit at the Council Secretariat headed by the State President, Comrade Otabe Leko, welcomed and commended their intervention approach and assured them of the Council’s readiness to continue to partner with them for the common good of all their members. She described their mission as “quite timely and important” as the visit will help confront the challenges Staff are facing in the local government system.
The purpose of the visit is also aimed at interfacing and familiarizing with Council Staff on current issues concerning their welfare amongst other important issues.
Hon. Mercy Nsor praised Comrade Otabe Leko’s proactive and hardworking nature as the State President of NULGE. She acknowledged the Council’s regular collaboration with NULGE, highlighting the successful automation system implementation of their salaries, which demonstrates the state’s commitment to Staff welfare.
“As a former head of pensions in the local government sector, I’m not ignorant of the numerous challenges faced by NULGE members, as such, I truly appreciate the union’s efforts in achieving the automation system. Let me reassure you and your team of continued support and cooperation, while emphasizing on the importance of synergy between the council and NULGE in enhancing staff welfare, the Chairman stated.
Responding on behalf of the Union, the President of NULGE, Cross River State chapter, and Director General of Services and Administration (DGSA) for Obubra LGA, Comrade Otabe Leko Obol, praised the Chairman for her warm reception despite the short notice of their visit. According to him, their visit was aimed at interfacing with her Council Staff, probing welfare conditions, and addressing serious systemic flaws hindering the smooth working of her members.
In his words; “Hon. Chairman, we are here to interface with your Staff and to further investigate their welfare. It is regrettable that many Council workers no longer report for duty as expected. Some even earn double salaries which is against our union’s ethics, amongst other numerous challenges bothering Staff.”
During the visit, Comrade Leko expressed gratitude to the Chairman for her hospitality and outstanding performance, particularly in addressing the Staff welfare and concerns. He commended the Council’s efforts in providing essential amenities for the Staff of the Council, such as the Ultramodern Toilet Facilities and proper Lighting and Furnishing of Staff offices, which has significantly improved the working conditions for Staff.
The visit highlights the Council’s commitment to Staff welfare, evident in the provision of essential amenities and the successful implementation of the automation system. These initiatives demonstrate the Council’s efforts to create a conducive working environment for its Staff, ultimately, enhancing productivity and service delivery.
The mutual appreciation and cooperation between the Executive Chairman and NULGE underscore the importance of collaborative governance in addressing Staff welfare and concerns thereby promoting development in the local government area.
