The International Human Rights Protection Service (IHRPS) has reaffirmed its commitment to promoting transparency, accountability, and the judicious use of public funds across West African countries.

This assurance was given by the organization’s Special Envoy to West Africa, Ambassador Charles Omini, during a one-day working visit to the headquarters of the Niger Delta Basin Development Authority (NDBDA) in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

Speaking during the visit, Ambassador Omini expressed concern over the widespread corruption and lack of accountability by public office holders across Africa.

He stated that the IHRPS is actively monitoring how government budgets are being implemented and how taxpayers’ money is being managed, with a focus on ensuring that funds are used for developmental projects, security, and the overall well-being of the people.

“The misuse of public funds is one of the highest forms of human rights abuse,” Omini said. “We are monitoring the implementation of government budgets across West Africa, and we are ready to support policies and programs that aim to reduce poverty and promote good governance.”

Ambassador Omini commended the efforts of the NDBDA under the leadership of Managing Director/CEO Dr. Prince Ebitimi Amgbare, praising the agency’s performance and responsible use of public resources. He particularly lauded the “Safe Waterways Sanitation Programme,” an initiative by the authority aimed at providing clean water and a safer environment for residents of Rivers, Bayelsa, and Delta States.

He noted that such initiatives are vital to improving the lives of citizens and are in line with the IHRPS’s goals of safeguarding human rights through accountability and sustainable development.

In his response, Dr. Amgbare expressed appreciation for the envoy’s visit and recognition. He reiterated the agency’s dedication to its mission, assuring that the NDBDA will continue to prioritize environmental health and access to clean water in the Niger Delta region.
