I Will Deliver Rivers and FCT to Tinubu in 2027 — Wike Declares 

Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike has dismissed reports that he is lobbying to become the Director-General of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council (PCC), describing the claim as false.

Wike, who reaffirmed his support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid, said he does not need a formal position in the campaign council to contribute to the President’s victory in the 2027 presidential election.

The minister said he would work to ensure that Tinubu records a convincing victory in Rivers State and the FCT.

His clarification came amid reports that he was among prominent APC figures and senior government officials allegedly being considered for, or lobbying to occupy, the position of Director-General of the President’s campaign council.

However, in a statement issued on Monday by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, Wike denied being involved in any such lobbying.

The minister also said he had not discussed the leadership or membership of the proposed campaign council with anyone.

Wike, who is currently outside the country, said he was taking a break after spending more than 30 days commissioning completed projects, flagging off new ones and inspecting ongoing projects across the FCT.

He said his focus upon returning would be on the continued implementation of the administration’s programmes in line with Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

“I am outside Nigeria, resting and relaxing after spending over 30 days, commissioning projects, flagging off new ones and inspecting ongoing ones, especially those scheduled for commissioning in December and January next year,” Wike said.

“When I return, our focus will be the continuous delivery of our mandate in line with the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda and to further enhance his electoral fortune in Rivers State and the FCT.

“Therefore, I do not need to be the DG or even a member of the Presidential Campaign Council of Mr President’s political party to contribute my quota by ensuring that he wins handsomely in Rivers State and the FCT.”

Wike’s declaration comes amid growing political realignment ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Although he remains a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the former Rivers State governor has consistently backed Tinubu’s re-election, a position that has created tension between him and sections of his party.

Wike was among the prominent PDP figures who supported Tinubu during the 2023 presidential election despite the party fielding Atiku Abubakar as its candidate.

His continued support for the President has since remained a major talking point ahead of the 2027 election, particularly because of his political influence in Rivers State and his position as FCT Minister.

Rather than seeking a formal role in Tinubu’s campaign structure, Wike said he would use his political influence and position in government to support the President’s electoral ambitions.

His reference to Rivers State and the FCT is politically significant. Rivers, where he served as governor for eight years, remains an important state in the presidential contest, while the FCT is now the centre of his administrative responsibilities.

Since becoming FCT Minister, Wike has overseen an aggressive infrastructure programme involving the construction, rehabilitation and commissioning of roads and other major projects in Abuja and surrounding satellite towns.

He has repeatedly associated the development projects with the Tinubu administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda, while the President has also publicly backed the FCT administration’s infrastructure drive.

Wike’s latest statement therefore indicates that his support for Tinubu’s 2027 ambition is not dependent on securing a position within the President’s campaign council.

For now, the minister said his immediate attention remains on governance and the delivery of projects in the FCT.

He is expected to return to Nigeria and resume work on projects already scheduled for commissioning, including those lined up for December and January.
