In a bid to tackle the multi-dimensional poverty that plagues Nigeria, President Bola Tinubu has set a goal to uplift at least half of the nation’s poor and vulnerable individuals within the next year.

This initiative is part of his comprehensive 8-point agenda, with poverty eradication taking precedence.

Recently, residents of the Ushafa community in the Bwari Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), along with numerous other suburbs, had the distinct honor of hosting the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation.

Dr. Edu engaged with market women and petty traders in preparation for the launch of the “IYALOJA MONIE” scheme scheduled for next month.

This program aims to impact the lives of at least 1.5 million Nigerians across the nation.

Excitement permeated the air as residents flocked in numbers to join Dr. Betta Edu in her interaction with the petty traders.

She stepped out of the opulence and glitz of Abuja city center to reach out to the poor and vulnerable individuals in Ushafa, an action that resonated deeply with those whom these interventions are intended to support.

The program, now named “The Iyaloja Market Fund,” will offer a non-interest loan of N50,000 to Phase 1 of market traders selected from 109 markets across every Senatorial zone in Nigeria.

During this community engagement, attended by traditional rulers, youth, women, the elderly, petty traders, and physically challenged individuals, both food and non-food items were distributed to impoverished households as part of Dr. Edu’s birthday celebrations.

These items align with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Tinubu, which aims to reduce multi-dimensional poverty in Nigeria.

Furthermore, the Minister used the occasion to monitor the inclusion of older members of the community who have been incorporated into the ongoing Conditional Cash Transfer program.

Mabel Imeh Odiegwu, a tailor, Hassan Yakubu, a petty trader, and Esther Isa, also a trader, shared their appreciation for the Minister’s presence in their community, an unprecedented event. They expressed their gratitude to President Tinubu for focusing on the needs of the poor and vulnerable in the country.

With the swiftness of implementation, they believe that significant positive changes are on the horizon for Nigeria. They commended the Minister for choosing to spend her birthday with their community, stating, “We are convinced that truly the Renewed Hope Agenda of Mr. President is real and has touched us.”
