He Was Our Boy, I’ve Been Balling Globally Before He Got His First Passport” — Dele Momodu Fires Back at Wike

Veteran journalist and publisher of Ovation International, Chief Dele Momodu, has fired back at the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, over disparaging comments made by the minister during a recent appearance on Politics Today, a Channels Television programme hosted by Seun Okinbaloye.

Wike, known for his fiery rhetoric, had mocked Momodu, questioning his credibility and even ridiculing his eating habits, claiming, “Even when he’s eating, food drops out of his mouth.”

In a swift and stinging rebuttal issued Friday night, Momodu described Wike’s remarks as the rantings of a man “soaked in some esoteric spirits” and accused the minister of descending into crude personal attacks rather than addressing the real issues plaguing Nigeria’s democracy.

This evening, Minister Wike took his garrulosity to a different level… He was obviously soaked in some esoteric spirits as he went on full rampage to disparage everyone opposed to his despicable assault on our hard-earned democracy,” Momodu stated.

He further dismissed Wike’s credentials, suggesting the minister lacks the historical perspective and maturity to understand the sacrifices made to return Nigeria to democracy in 1999.

Momodu recalled his past interactions with Wike, stating that their relationship once included professional engagements and personal exchanges. He claimed that after a 2021 interview he had with IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu, which was critical of Wike, the minister had reached out for a right of reply—an opportunity Momodu says he graciously granted.

“After the interview, Wike excitedly invited Ovation to Port Harcourt to cover his projects… Since his memories seem to be fading rapidly, I have requested for a right of reply from Channels TV next Monday,” he added.

The media mogul didn’t stop there. In a blistering tone, Momodu accused Wike of poor etiquette and inflated ego, saying:

Maybe he mistook me for some cheap journalists when he spoke about his food that I ate. As stupendously wealthy as he is, his crass food was not the type anyone would actually savor. Rather, I tooched him up like a beauty therapist and introduced him to some exclusive champagnes and perfumes.”

Momodu claimed he helped elevate Wike’s personal image, often being invited for early morning photo sessions to boost the then-governor’s public persona.

“He started dressing better… He told me how he used to watch me, perhaps enviously, when I used to roll with his boss, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi. He was our boy then, but too much money has now turned him into a rude kid,” Momodu said.

Concluding his statement, Momodu emphasized his global relevance and longstanding relationships with world leaders, asserting, “I have been balling, globally, with the high and mighty long before Wike got his first passport.”

The fiery exchange between the two high-profile figures has set social media and political circles abuzz, with many Nigerians reacting to the deepening personal feud between the media icon and the outspoken FCT Minister.
