Gunmen Attack Omo-Agege’s Convoy in Delta, Six Injured

Former Deputy Senate President, Ovie Omo-Agege, has alleged that gunmen loyal to Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori attacked his convoy during a campaign tour in Usiefrun, Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State, leaving six people injured.

Omo-Agege, who is the Delta Central senatorial candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), made the allegation in a statement on Friday, August 14, 2026, describing the incident as an assassination attempt and an attack on democracy.

According to him, the incident occurred on Thursday, August 13, during the NDC’s ward-to-ward campaign tour of Delta Central.

Omo-Agege said he, the party’s governorship candidate, Deacon Chris Iyovwaye, and other NDC leaders were targeted when armed men allegedly opened fire on supporters who had gathered to welcome them.

“I was the main target,” Omo-Agege said, adding that six party members were wounded in the attack.

Among those he identified as injured were Believe Biadoyo, Joshua Oghenetega Oyibocha, Owhos Peter and Ojiyovwin Dennis.

The former deputy Senate president alleged that the attackers were determined to stop the NDC’s campaign activities in the area.

He named four individuals — Hon. Simon Mudi, popularly known as “Temple,” a protocol officer to Governor Oborevwori; Flash Oghenetega Origbon; Ochuko Origbon; and Alex Awherhurho — as suspects in the attack.

Omo-Agege alleged that the four suspects were members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and called for their immediate arrest and prosecution.

He also linked the Usiefrun incident to two earlier incidents he had raised concerns about on July 29, including an alleged assault involving Mudi at PTI Effurun and an earlier attack on Iyovwaye in Agholokpe.

According to Omo-Agege, the incidents had moved beyond ordinary political disagreements, describing them as “a well-orchestrated campaign of violence and attempted murder.”

He urged the Delta State Government to suspend any political appointee found to be connected with the alleged attack and called on the police, Department of State Services (DSS) and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to investigate the incidents as a connected case.

Omo-Agege further urged the authorities to deploy observers to the affected areas ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He gave Governor Oborevwori 48 hours to publicly condemn the alleged attack, warning that failure to do so would be interpreted as complicity.

He, however, appealed to NDC supporters not to retaliate.

“Do not retaliate. Do not live in fear,” he told party supporters, insisting that the campaign would continue across wards in Delta Central.

As of the time of the statement, there was no response from Governor Oborevwori or the persons named by Omo-Agege in the allegations.
