Group Condemns CRISSA Over Unlawful Removal of Senator Asuquo Ekpenyong’s Billboard

A sociopolitical group, the Ojahism Grassroot Mandate Council (OGMC), has publicly condemned the Cross River State Signage and Advertisement Agency (CRISSA) over what it described as the “illegal and unprofessional” removal of a billboard celebrating the second anniversary of Senator Asuquo Ekpenyong’s achievements.

In a statement signed by the group’s Director of Public Affairs, Engr. Owai Francis Owai, OGMC expressed shock and disappointment at the agency’s action, which it claims occurred just hours after the billboard was mounted — despite prior approval and full payment to CRISSA.

“The billboard, which was mounted to celebrate the second-year anniversary achievements of Distinguished Senator Asuquo Ekpenyong, was approved by CRISSA and fully paid for. Yet, in a shocking twist, it was pulled down in less than three hours after installation,” the statement read.

The group alleged that the move was politically motivated and hinted at internal government sabotage, citing warnings from unnamed insiders who reportedly cautioned that the billboard would not last long if certain individuals within the state’s political machinery disapproved.

According to OGMC, one of its members, who is also a government aide, advised against the project, claiming that “the state mechanism would destroy the billboard within four hours of mounting.” The group lamented that “ironically, it didn’t even last that long.”

OGMC also questioned the impartiality of the CRISSA Director General, accusing him of allowing the agency to be used as a tool for undisclosed political interests.

“It is unfortunate that the CRISSA DG, who should be neutral and professional, is being used to fight unseen battles on behalf of interests that remain unnamed,” Owai said.

The group has now called on Governor Bassey Edet Otu to intervene and rein in what it termed “overzealous political aides,” warning that such actions could inflame political tensions in the state.

“These reckless actions risk igniting unnecessary political tension and undermining the peace we have all worked hard to build,” OGMC stated, adding that they are already consulting with their legal team to explore options for redress.

“We will not be intimidated. This injustice must be addressed, and we are prepared to pursue all lawful means to seek redress,” the statement concluded.

As of press time, CRISSA has not issued any official response to the allegations.
