Governor Makinde Receives PDP National Secretary Udeh-Okoye, NWC Members in Oyo
Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has hosted the newly appointed National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Rt. Hon. SKE Udeh-Okoye, along with other members of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC). The visit, which took place on Thursday, was officially described as a condolence trip, but it also carried significant political undertones.

During the visit, Udeh-Okoye emphasized the importance of unity within the PDP to reposition the party for success ahead of the 2027 general elections. He urged party leaders and members to set aside their differences, stressing that collaboration and cohesion were critical to reclaiming dominance in Nigeria’s political landscape.
“Our party needs to show Nigerians that we are capable of putting our house in order. Unity is the cornerstone of our success, and we must prioritize it to move forward together,” Udeh-Okoye said.
Governor Makinde, one of the influential members of the party, expressed his support for the new leadership and reiterated his commitment to the party’s progress. This gesture, however, appears to mark a significant shift in Makinde’s political alliances.
Makinde, previously aligned with the G-5 Governors, a dissident group led by former Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike, seems to be distancing himself from the faction. The G-5 had been at odds with the PDP’s national leadership over the zoning of key party positions, among other issues, in the lead-up to the 2023 elections.
The visit also comes at a time when the PDP is grappling with the fallout of its loss in the presidential election and the need to rebuild its base in preparation for 2027. As one of the PDP’s few governors in the South-West, Makinde’s stance could influence the party’s fortunes in the region and beyond.
