Governor Makinde Moves Against Tinubu, Says South-West Wiser, Will No Longer Vote APC in 2027
Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has boldly declared that the South-West region of Nigeria will turn its back on the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections.
According to the governor, the region has become “wiser” and will no longer support the APC, citing the economic difficulties that Nigerians have endured under the party’s leadership.

Speaking during a campaign in Ondo State, Makinde, a key figure in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), stated that the Yoruba people, who predominantly inhabit the South-West, have recognized their error in backing President Bola Tinubu during the 2023 elections. He claimed that this realization would lead to a shift in political allegiance, with the PDP poised to reclaim its influence in the region.
“Talk is cheap,” Makinde said. “The people of Ondo State, and indeed the entire South-West, will make it clear on November 16, 2024, that they support the PDP. The APC will be in for a shock when the votes speak for themselves.”
Makinde’s remarks come in response to recent statements from the APC leadership. Abdullahi Ganduje, the national chairman of the APC, had expressed confidence that the party would solidify its hold on the South-West ahead of 2027.

Similarly, Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, during a campaign tour, declared that the PDP was “dead” in Ondo, noting that many opposition leaders had defected to the APC.
Despite these declarations, Makinde insists that the PDP remains strong in the region and that the 2024 elections will serve as proof of the party’s enduring influence. He emphasized that while APC leaders may be optimistic about their prospects, the reality on the ground is different.
The political battle for the South-West is heating up as both parties gear up for the 2024 and 2027 elections, with the PDP determined to challenge the APC’s dominance.
