The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike narrowly escaped being assaulted by irate soldiers earlier today in Abuja.
In footage seen by News Week Nigeria, the honourable minister was stopped from accessing a piece of Land in the Capital city leading to clash between his security officers and the Military men.
The Minister was nearly rough handled as he attempted to separate the security agents from Clashing with Each other. This development has caused shockwaves across social media with many questioning the audacity of the Military Personnel.
FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, was denied access to a disputed plot of land at Plot 1946, Gaduwa District, reportedly linked to former Chief of Naval Staff, Awwal Zubairu Gambo.
According to findings by News Week Nigeria, soldiers stationed on the land blocked the minister’s convoy with a truck, refusing him entry. In the now-viral video, Wike can be seen visibly angry, shouting, swearing, and accusing the military personnel of intimidation.
At one point, some men believed to be with the minister were seen pushing the soldiers who stood their ground, trying to hold the line. Wike, in rage, lashed out telling one of the officers, “Shut up, you are a fool!” before vowing that the property would never be developed.
This confrontation didn’t just expose tempers; it exposed how power and ego often replace procedure in Nigeria. Because think about it when a serving minister trades words and shoves with uniformed soldiers, the question is: who’s actually in charge the law or the loudest voice?
In any working democracy, soldiers don’t guard private lands, and ministers don’t swear at officers on duty. But in Nigeria, impunity is always in uniform sometimes khaki, sometimes agbada.
The military is guilty. The military should realize that most of us wanted to join the military during enlistment but the most were pushed away because they had nobody to help them get enlisted. Enlistment is done thru msn-know-man. So, what’s the shakara about??
That military is an institution not mere enlistment or power drunk politicians… our uniformed men must be respected at all cost whether enlisted by man know man. This particular military showed wat ought to be…and the minister what ought not to be. Check am .
