Fubara Suspension: Akpabio, Wike Have Poisoned Millions of Voters’ Minds in South — APC Chieftain

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Cross River State, Citizen Ekanem Essien, has warned that the South-South geopolitical zone may deliver a massive protest vote against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 general elections if urgent steps are not taken to address what he described as the “dictatorial and undemocratic” actions of Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.

In a statement titled “My Personal Opinion as a Concerned Member of the APC, Not as an Appointee”, Essien condemned what he described as the “dictatorial and undemocratic” approach adopted by the two political heavyweights in handling political issues in the South-South region, particularly the suspension of Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

“The South-South cannot boast of having the number three citizen in the Nigerian government while a democratically elected governor is being suspended on flimsy and unconstitutional grounds,” Essien said.

He urged progressive governors in the region to unite, take control of the political direction of the South-South, and stop depending on what he termed the “failed leadership” of Akpabio and Wike.

According to him, the “autocratic leadership style” of the duo has already “poisoned millions of voters’ minds” against the Tinubu administration, a development he believes could lead to an electoral disaster for the APC in the zone if not urgently addressed.

Essien further cautioned that Akpabio and Wike should learn from history, referencing the political missteps that contributed to the defeat of former President Goodluck Jonathan in the 2015 election.

“They should be using their positions to bring development and foster unity in the South-South, not to promote disintegration and hatred as they have done,” he stressed.

Essien, who is the Director-General of CR Filter Room, concluded by calling for swift action from APC leaders in the region to avert what he described as an “eminent defeat” for President Tinubu in the 2027 polls.
