Fubara Returns to Nigeria, Speaks on Defecting To APC After Meeting With Tinubu in UK
Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has firmly denied rumors suggesting he is planning to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), following his return to Nigeria after a recent meeting with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the United Kingdom.
Speculation had intensified online earlier this week, alleging that Fubara, along with Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and Akwa Ibom Governor Umo Eno, was considering a move to the APC as part of strategic realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Crisis Breaks Out In Zamfara Assembly as Lawmakers Form Parallel Legislature, Challenge Governor
While Governor Oborevwori confirmed his defection to the APC on Wednesday — a move that also included his deputy, former governor Ifeanyi Okowa, and other prominent PDP leaders in Delta State — Fubara has made it clear he has no such intentions.
Speaking through his Special Assistant on Electronic Media, Jerry Omatsogunwa, on Thursday, Fubara emphasized his commitment to the PDP and dismissed the swirling reports as baseless.

“I’m not sure the governor is even aware of the defection rumour,” Omatsogunwa told DAILY POST. “As it stands now, we are still in the PDP, and nothing has changed.”
He further noted that Governor Fubara remains not only a loyal PDP member but also serves as the Deputy Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum — a role he continues to uphold.
“As of this moment, April 24, 2025, at 9:46 a.m., Governor Siminalayi Fubara is still a committed member of the PDP,” Omatsogunwa added.

Fubara’s reaffirmation of his party allegiance comes amid mounting political tension in Rivers State and growing interest in potential shifts ahead of the next electoral cycle.
His recent visit to the UK and engagement with President Tinubu had added fuel to the speculations, but his team insists there is no link between the trip and any plan to defect.
