Fubara Exposes Chats of Nwaeke Demanding Funds in Exchange for Loyalty Amid Damning Revelation

Sim Fubara, the suspended Governor of Rivers State, on Saturday, exposed a series of private messages between former Head of Service (HoS), George Nwaeke, and Chief of Staff, Ederson Ehie.

This revelation was made in an attempt to back Fubara’s claims that Nwaeke may have been either paid or coerced into making false accusations against him.

My husband, ex-Rivers HoS, held under duress in Abuja, blackmailed to lie against Fubara — Florence Nwaeke

The controversy erupted earlier this week when Nwaeke, in a shocking press briefing, accused Fubara of masterminding the burning of the Rivers State House of Assembly complex. He alleged that the suspended governor had plotted to destroy key oil facilities in the state to destabilize the region.

Nwaeke further claimed that Fubara instructed his Chief of Staff, Ederson Ehie, to carry out the attack on the Assembly complex to prevent his impeachment, and that he personally witnessed the handover of a bag of money for the operation.

Nwaeke also credited the declaration of a state of emergency by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for averting what he described as a looming state of chaos and economic sabotage. Additionally, Nwaeke clarified that his resignation from office was voluntary and not influenced by external pressure or dismissal.

In response, Fubara dismissed Nwaeke’s allegations, labeling them as “laughable” and urging Nigerians to disregard the claims. In a statement signed by Fubara, he argued that Nwaeke had been compromised and that his comments were likely the result of promises made by those who may have financially incentivized or pressured him to lie.

He said, “The truth is that Dr. Nwaeke has been compromised, and whatever he is saying is only aimed at fulfilling his promise to those who may have paid or coerced him to lie against me.”

Further supporting his stance, Fubara shared a series of WhatsApp messages between Nwaeke and Ehie. These messages reportedly show Nwaeke asking Ehie for financial assistance, revealing that he was seeking funds in exchange for his loyalty. In the conversation, Nwaeke disclosed that his ₦500,000 monthly salary was insufficient to meet his needs, suggesting that he had been looking for alternative financial support.

The released chats provide a fresh angle on the ongoing political saga in Rivers State, further intensifying the tension between the suspended governor and the former Head of Service. The public’s reaction to these claims and counterclaims remains to be seen as the controversy continues to unfold.
