Dist. Sen. Jarigbe Agom Jarigbe, the senator who represents the Cross River North senatorial district, has vowed to file a petition with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and all parties concerned to determine who really owns the university.
The lawmaker responded to a comment on his social media post by revealing this information and adding that he wouldn’t wait for the new administration to take action; instead, he would confront the Court and law enforcement agencies.

He wrote, “The British Canadian College in Obudu is therefore privately owned. So money from the Cross River State Universal Basic Education Commission can be allocated to a private university. Can SUBEB fund institutions of higher education? Is it covered by the Mandate? Who has become the new owner? Has it been sold out? Was there anywhere that a call for bidders appeared?

“We cannot maintain our pretence of ignorance about the rot in our State. Uncovering many more will come. Our grace is starting to work against us.

Remember that the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), under the direction of Ayade’s aide Stephen Odey, reportedly spent federal funds on the building of a primary school that was meant to serve as an example. Later, the government transformed the buildings/framework into a secondary school, and now a proposed university.
The laws governing SUBEB’s establishment limit the organization’s operations to Basic Education, excluding Tertiary Institutions.
In Ayade The Canadian government and the state government of Calabar signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) in July 2016 to build an international institution with learning facilities for primary, secondary, and tertiary education in the state. He made the announcement while briefing reporters at the Margaret Ekpo International Airport in Calabar after returning from one of his international trips.

The institution has been given the name British-Canadian University and is located in the governor’s hometown of Kakum, Obudu local government area.
The state government revealed that, upon completion, Rainbow Unlimited GMBH, a Swiss educational consortium, will assume control of the institution during a tour of the facility in December 2020.
On the other hand, Gov. Ayade revealed during his appearance yesterday on the Arise TV show that the Federal Executive Council had given the University permission to operate without specifying whether it was a private or public institution. A total of 37 new private universities, including the Canadian University, received approval to operate during the extraordinary FEC meeting held on Monday.

The British Canadian University, Obudu, and Ogoja Rice Mills have all been given to HairBase Nigeria Ltd., according to well-known activist and journalist Agba Jalingo. a business that Pastor Yemisi Kudehinbu of Christ Embassy owns.
