Former Kwara State Governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed, has officially aligned with the growing opposition coalition movement poised to challenge President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.
The coalition, which recently adopted the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as its platform, continues to attract influential figures across Nigeria’s political landscape.

Ahmed, who governed Kwara State from 2011 to 2019 and is a longtime ally of former Senate President Bukola Saraki, is now playing a strategic role in the coalition. Sources confirmed that he is part of the elite think-tank group driving the alliance, which includes political heavyweights like former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Labour Party’s Peter Obi, and ex-Governor Nasir el-Rufai.
In a related development, Bolaji Abdullahi, another close associate of Saraki and a former Minister of Youth and Sports, has been appointed as the Interim National Publicity Secretary of the ADC. Abdullahi, who contested the Kwara Central senatorial seat under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 elections, had resigned from the PDP in October 2024, signaling his shift in political allegiance.
Insiders told FactualTimes that Saraki’s loyalists have begun mobilizing grassroots support for the ADC across Kwara State, as preparations intensify for the 2027 contest. The influx of Saraki allies into the ADC further strengthens speculation that he may play a significant role in the unfolding coalition strategy, even if from behind the scenes.

The opposition coalition is seeking to unite under one banner in order to present a formidable challenge to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and President Tinubu’s bid for re-election. With the entrance of Ahmed and Abdullahi, the movement appears to be gaining further traction in the North Central region.
