Former Imo Governor Joins ADC, Rallies Support Across State

Former Governor of Imo State, Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha, has officially joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC), marking a significant shift in the state’s political landscape and signaling the consolidation of opposition forces ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Ihedioha made the announcement on Thursday while addressing members of his grassroots political base, the Rebuild Imo Movement (RIM), at his Civic Centre residence in Owerri. The former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives declared the ADC as the new political home for himself and his supporters.

“My party, your party, our party is now ADC. That is the way to go. That is the party for all of us,” Ihedioha said to cheers from a crowd of loyalists. He urged RIM leaders to mobilize support for the new political platform across their respective wards, local governments, and zones.

The development comes just a day after the ADC was unveiled in Abuja as the adopted platform of a growing coalition of opposition leaders, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and other prominent political figures seeking to mount a credible challenge to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Ihedioha emphasized the strength of his political structure in Imo State, boasting functional representation in all 305 electoral wards, the 27 local government areas, and the three senatorial zones.

“We are people-oriented. Our strength is the people, the masses,” he stated. “Just go home and invigorate our RIM structure which is highly effective and superb.”

He also expressed gratitude to his followers for their steadfast loyalty and patience during what he described as a period of political realignment.

With Ihedioha’s entry, the ADC gains a significant political figure in the South East, further positioning the party as a potential force in the 2027 general elections.
