In a landmark announcement, President Ibrahim Traoré declared that elderly citizens in Burkina Faso will no longer be required to pay for electricity and water.

 

 

The decision, which was shared publicly earlier this week, is part of a broader vision by the government to improve living conditions for vulnerable populations across the country.

 

According to reports from African Hub, President Traoré emphasized that access to electricity and clean water are fundamental human needs that should not be treated as privileges.

 

“These are basic necessities. No one, especially our elders, should have to pay for them,” he said.

 

The president further stated that this initiative is just the beginning.

 

He intends to eventually extend free access to electricity and water to all citizens, underscoring his administration’s commitment to social welfare and economic equality.
