El-rufai powerful, intelligent, audacious, and smarter than all Tinubu’s Ministers – APC chieftain

A prominent member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Joe Igbokwe, has declared former Kaduna State governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, as one of the most powerful and intelligent figures in Nigerian politics, asserting that he outshines all current ministers in President Bola Tinubu’s cabinet.

In a post shared on his official Facebook page, Igbokwe praised El-Rufai as “smarter, bolder, and more proficient” than any serving federal minister.

He lamented the party’s failure to confirm El-Rufai as Minister of Power, describing the move as the result of interference by unnamed “government cabals” and a significant loss to the ruling party.

“All things considered, APC Nigeria needs the former Governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai,” Igbokwe wrote.

“We allowed shenanigans and people without honour to come to the hallowed chambers of the Senate to stop his nomination for reasons we do not know.”

El-Rufai’s recent criticism of President Tinubu’s administration has sparked tension within the APC.

Speaking at a public event in Abuja, the former governor voiced his discontent with the direction of the party, accusing its leadership of abandoning internal democracy and promoting poor governance.

These remarks have drawn backlash from pro-Tinubu figures, including political commentator and government supporter Reno Omokri, who accused El-Rufai of authoritarianism and alleged human rights abuses during his tenure as governor.

Despite the growing criticism, Igbokwe defended El-Rufai’s legacy and contributions, particularly during the 2023 general elections.

He credited El-Rufai with helping to counter the controversial monetary policies of former Central Bank Governor Godwin Emefiele, which, he claimed, nearly derailed Tinubu’s presidential bid.

“We cannot afford to lose him to the rival party,” Igbokwe warned. “He is one of the strong characters we cannot afford to lose at a time like this.”

The statement adds fuel to ongoing internal debates within the APC over leadership direction and the treatment of influential figures within its ranks. As political alignments continue to shift ahead of future elections, El-Rufai’s role—and his relationship with the Tinubu-led administration—remains a point of contention.
