Drama As PDP Vows to Defeat APC in 2027 Despite Tinubu Endorsements by Adeleke, Fayose, Wike, Others

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has declared its unwavering resolve to defeat the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections, despite a wave of endorsements for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid by some of its high-profile members.

Among those who have recently declared their support for President Tinubu are Osun State Governor Senator Ademola Adeleke, former Ekiti State Governor Ayo Fayose, former Rivers State Governor and current FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, and former Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom. All four political heavyweights maintain formal ties with the PDP, yet their open endorsement of the APC leader has sparked debates over the party’s internal unity and direction.

Reacting to these developments, PDP National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Debo Ologunagba, issued a strongly worded statement on Monday, describing the endorsements as “inconsequential.” He insisted that the party remains focused on its mission to reclaim power and rescue Nigerians from what he termed the APC’s failed leadership.

“The PDP is the most viable alternative and the only platform capable of rebuilding Nigeria,” Ologunagba said. “Endorsements by individuals do not reflect the will of the Nigerian people, who are yearning for a return to purposeful leadership.”

The statement also served as a rebuttal to recent remarks by Bolaji Abdullahi, Interim National Publicity Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), who accused the PDP of losing direction. Ologunagba dismissed Abdullahi’s comments as a “public verbal assault” and questioned the sincerity of a former APC spokesman criticizing the PDP.

“It is unfortunate that the APC-indoctrinated Abdullahi is apparently unhappy that the PDP is building momentum against the APC ahead of 2027,” Ologunagba said.

Despite the public defections and political drama, the PDP reaffirmed its determination to consolidate its support base and unite ahead of the next general elections. The party is gearing up for its National Convention, slated for November 15–16, 2025, in Ibadan, Oyo State—a gathering expected to mark a significant turning point in its internal restructuring and strategic planning.

Ologunagba reiterated that the PDP is unshaken by defections or internal challenges and remains the only party with the national spread, support base, and leadership capacity to challenge and defeat President Tinubu.

“PDP has more than enough presidential personalities with proven records and capacity to defeat Tinubu at any time,” he stated.

The PDP also hinted at possible alliances with like-minded political forces, emphasizing its readiness to work with any group committed to delivering good governance. However, the party warned that it would not be distracted by what it described as “baseless attacks from known agents of the APC.”
