Honourable Abdussamad Dasuki, the lawmaker representing Kebbe/Tambuwal Federal Constituency of Sokoto State, has announced that he will not contest for another term in the House of Representatives during the 2027 general elections.

News Week Nigeria reports that Dasuki described his decision as a “personal sacrifice” intended to create space for younger Nigerians to assume greater leadership responsibilities.

A Decade of Public Service

In a statement released in Sokoto, Dasuki recalled that since 2011 he has served at multiple levels of governance — first as a member of the State House of Assembly, then in the House of Representatives, and later within the State Executive Council.

He noted that throughout his career he sponsored bills, moved motions, and initiated policies aimed at security, youth and women empowerment, and sustainable development.

“I stood side by side with like-minded colleagues to reform our political and governance structures,” he said, adding that true progress requires older leaders to step aside for a younger generation to lead.

Inspiration from the Future Is Now Project

Dasuki explained that his decision was inspired by the Future Is Now Project, a youth-advocacy initiative unveiled on October 1, 2025, at the Nicon Luxury Hotel, Abuja.
The project, which he chairs in an interim capacity, issued a communiqué calling for 70 percent of House of Representatives seats to be occupied by Nigerians under 40 in 2027.

“As a promoter of this project, I cannot ignore the message we put forward,” he said. “I have crossed that 40-year threshold, and if we are to inspire trust, we must be willing to sacrifice and make room for the next generation.”

He emphasised that his withdrawal from the 2027 race is not born of fatigue or disillusionment but of conviction and belief in inter-generational justice.

Gratitude to Mentors and Constituents

Hon Dasuki expressed deep appreciation to his political mentor, Senator Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, whom he credited for identifying his potential and giving him opportunities to serve.

He also thanked his constituents for their trust and partnership over the years.

“You opened your homes, hearts and hopes to me, and for that I am eternally grateful,” he stated. “I seek your support in enabling this transition to a new era led by vibrant youth.”

Call to Action for Younger Nigerians

Dasuki urged Nigerian youth to take responsibility for shaping the nation’s future, saying the time for excuses has passed.

“No more waiting, no more silence. Take your place and lead with courage, integrity and vision. Build the best of the future,” he declared.

He pledged continued support for education, women empowerment, and youth development even after leaving elective office.

“Serving you has been the greatest honour of my life,” he concluded. “May God bless Kebbe/Tambuwal Federal Constituency, Sokoto State, and the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
