Cross River SUBEB Chairman Elder Esu Exposed After Lying To Governor Otu
The crisis within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Calabar Municipality Local Government Area of Cross River State which has just been resolved by Governor Bassey Otu has taken a new turn as Elder Esu, the Chairman of the Cross River State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), denied endorsing Chief Victor-Felix Idem as the leader of the APC in the area, despite being present at the declaration meeting.
The controversy erupted following a declaration event held on January 7th, 2024, at the Municipal Dome, where Chief Idem was announced as the leader of the APC in Calabar Municipality. Elder Esu was in attendance at this event. However, during a subsequent meeting with the Governor, Esu referred to Idem as a “self-acclaimed” leader of the APC, distancing himself from the endorsement.
A member of the APC and supporter of Chief Idem, who spoke with NEWSWEEK NIGERIA, accused the SUBEB Chairman of lying to the Governor about his presence at the January 7th declaration.
He said: “He was present at the meeting of January 7th, 2024, at Municipal Dome. Unfortunately, after being appointed Chairman of SUBEB, he started agitating, leading to some crisis in the Municipality. The Governor summoned a meeting to settle the matter, and in that meeting, Elder Esu addressed my boss as a self-acclaimed leader and denied being present at the declaration. That’s why we have the picture to expose his lies and clarify that he was there.”
