Cross River PDP in Panic as Members Declare support for ADC

The Cross River State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has been thrown into panic and growing concern as more of its members begin declaring support for the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

“This move is clearly a sign of panic,” said one party insider who asked not to be named. “The leadership is rattled by the defections and is now trying to control the narrative through social media groups.”

A leaked screenshot obtained by News Week Nigeria reveals that the state PDP chairman, Vena Ikem, has reportedly issued a directive to all members instructing them to remove ADC supporters from all PDP-related platforms.

The move, seen by many as reactionary, has sparked discussions among party stakeholders, with some interpreting it as a sign of deepening panic within the party.

“This is not just about cleaning up platforms; it’s a signal that the leadership is genuinely worried about the growing influence of the ADC in the state,” a party member, who asked not to be named, told News Week Nigeria.

The defection wave appears to be gaining momentum following the quiet but strategic support of the ADC by key political figures in the state, including former Governor Liyel Imoke. Though Imoke has not made any public statements, sources close to the former governor say he has been instrumental in mobilizing support for the ADC coalition.

Adding to the drama, Comrade Austine Ibok, a prominent PDP member in the state, recently announced his support for the ADC coalition.

In a statement, Ibok said while he remains loyal to the PDP, he believes in the vision and direction of the ADC-led coalition, signaling a dual allegiance that could reflect the mood of many undecided PDP members.
