Obasanjo, Peter Obi Endorse ADC as top Stakeholders Back Coalition Movement to remove Tinubu from Aso Rock

Ahead of the 2025 governorship election in Anambra State, top national political figures including former President Olusegun Obasanjo and 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi have thrown their weight behind the African Democratic Congress (ADC), as the party solidifies its position at the center of an emerging national coalition.

During a high-profile meeting held in Awka, stakeholders of the ADC and members of the Anambra Coalition Stakeholders Forum—representing all 21 local government areas and 326 electoral wards of the state—unanimously adopted the coalition strategy being spearheaded by the party’s national leadership.

The gathering, led by ADC National Chairman Chief Ralph Okey Nwosu, culminated in the endorsement of Chief John Nwosu as the party’s governorship candidate for the November 8, 2025 Anambra gubernatorial election.

Participants commended the party’s leadership for taking bold steps to align with the broader national coalition, a move they described as essential for uniting disaffected political actors and regions across the country.

Speaking at the meeting, Chief Nwosu emphasized that the current developments are the result of two decades of hard work, advocacy, and political planning. He revealed that former President Obasanjo has played a pivotal role in laying the groundwork for the coalition, recognizing the ADC as the ideal platform for the new political realignment.

“Obasanjo has shown unwavering belief in the coalition’s vision and in ADC as a political party with a difference,” Chief Nwosu said. “Similarly, Peter Obi has shown keen interest in seeing this movement come to life under the ADC. That is what Nigeria needs now.”

The ADC’s move is seen as part of a broader strategy to channel mounting national dissatisfaction with the current political establishment into a viable, alternative political front. The stakeholders’ meeting concluded with a communique signed by former Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Barr. BenChuks Nwosu, who was nominated as chairman of the forum, and Prof. (Mrs) Zelunjo Igweze, who will serve as secretary.

In his remarks, Chief John Nwosu, the newly adopted ADC governorship candidate, expressed confidence in his chances in the upcoming election. He also unveiled a seven-point campaign agenda, promising transformational policies aimed at revitalizing governance and improving the welfare of Anambra citizens.

With strong backing from respected political leaders and a growing coalition behind it, the ADC appears poised to challenge the status quo in Anambra and potentially beyond, as Nigeria’s political landscape braces for significant shifts ahead of the 2027 general elections.
