Confusion As Kogi Governor Ododo Escapes With Yahaya Bello, Stops EFCC From Carrying Out Arrest
The Kogi State Governor Usman Ododo has been accused of helping his predecessor, former Governor Yahaya Bello, evade arrest by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The EFCC had reportedly surrounded the Kogi State Government Lodge in Abuja on Wednesday in an attempt to apprehend Bello, who is wanted in connection with an alleged N80.2 billion fraud.
Sources claim that Governor Ododo’s actions have prevented the EFCC from executing the arrest. According to an insider who spoke to *The Punch*, Ododo allegedly intervened and facilitated Bello’s escape, using the immunity that comes with his office to obstruct the EFCC operatives.
“Yahaya Bello has not been arrested. The Kogi State governor prevented operatives from doing their work yesterday, just like he did the other time. He took him away, and our men could not do anything because of the immunity he (Ododo) is enjoying,” the source said.
The incident has sparked confusion and public outcry, as many are questioning the governor’s involvement in shielding his predecessor from justice. This is not the first time Ododo has been accused of interfering with the EFCC’s efforts to apprehend Bello, raising concerns over potential abuse of executive power.
The EFCC has yet to officially comment on the situation, but it is expected that the agency will continue to pursue legal avenues to address the matter.
Yahaya Bello, who served as Kogi State governor from 2016 to 2023, is facing multiple corruption allegations, with the N80.2 billion fraud case being one of the most prominent.
