COBANA praises Governor Otu for Nursing Initiatives in Cross River

 

The Coalition of Efik, Efut, and Qua Nurses (COBANA) praised Governor Sen Prince Bassey Otu for establishing the office of Special Assistant on Nursing and appointing Mr. Esu Coco-Bassey, a significant step towards improving healthcare services in Cross River State.

 

This statement was made during a courtesy visit to the Special Assistant on Nursing, Comrd Coco-Bassey Esu where COBANA’s executive committee congratulated him and sought government collaboration for their activities .

(Mrs) EssienAnwan Eyo, expressed gratitude for the governor’s initiative.

“We commend Governor Otu for recognizing the importance of nursing in our healthcare system. The appointment of Mr. Coco-Bassey Esu as Special Assistant on Nursing is a testament to his commitment to improving healthcare services in our state,” she said.
Mrs. Eyo highlighted COBANA’s objectives, which include organizing outreach programs in urban and rural communities, schools, and churches, as well as providing scholarship schemes for young people. She also emphasized the need for government support to enhance selfless service, particularly in geriatric nursing and care for the elderly.

 

In response, the Special Assistant on Nursing, Mr. Esu Coco-Bassey, thanked COBANA for their community efforts. He assured them of government backing, citing Governor Otu’s “people-first” mantra.
“Our Governor is committed to improving healthcare services in our state. Government will support COBANA’s initiatives and work together to enhance medical services and care for the elderly,” he said.

Mr. Coco-Bassey also highlighted opportunities for introducing nursing specialties, including geriatric nursing, with accreditation from the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) and the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria.

“We are exploring ways to introduce nursing specialties, including geriatric nursing. With accreditation from relevant bodies, we believe this will enhance the quality of healthcare services in our state,” he added.

 

The partnership between COBANA and the government is expected to enhance medical services and care for the elderly. With government support, COBANA’s initiatives are set to make a significant impact on healthcare services in Cross River State.
