Coalition Will Defeat Tinubu in 2027 — Peter Obi Boasts
Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has expressed confidence that a broad political coalition will unseat President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general election.
Speaking with journalists in Abuja on Wednesday, Obi reaffirmed his commitment to contesting the presidency again under the Labour Party (LP), while emphasizing that the 2027 race would not be fought by individual parties alone.

“All well-meaning people will come together to rescue this country,” Obi declared. “I belong to the coalition-forming ADC for the presidential election in 2027. Other parties will join, other people will be part of it. All of us are going to come together.”
‘It’s Not About Primaries, It’s About Who Can Deliver’
The former Anambra State governor stated that his motivation for running is not merely to win a party primary, but to offer Nigerians a credible alternative.
“I believe I am qualified, competent, and capable of changing the trajectory of this country. It is not about winning the presidential primary but about who is offering a better future for Nigerians.”
Obi also spoke respectfully of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, his 2023 opposition ally, describing him as “a very dear brother and leader.”

Mbah’s Defection Won’t Change South East Dynamics
Reacting to the defection of Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah to the APC, Obi said political moves are personal decisions, but insisted that leadership must be about earning public trust.
“If you are a leader, you have to do the right thing for people to follow you. So I don’t think anybody is capturing the South East.”

Obi urged Professor Joash Amupitan, the Chairman-designate of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), to prioritize credibility and integrity when confirmed.
“Nigerians want a new Nigeria where elections will be free, fair and credible. Every position is transitional — no one stays in office forever. Let him ensure he keeps his reputation.”
Calls for Dialogue Over Nnamdi Kanu’s Detention
On the ongoing agitation for the release of detained IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu, Obi reiterated his long-held position that dialogue remains the best path to resolving the matter.
“There is nothing wrong with anybody agitating. Let’s dialogue with them. Whatever we do, let’s follow the rules,” he said, adding that he supports peaceful protests demanding Kanu’s release.
