With the United Nation’s stance on children’s age ranging from 0-18 years and is considered the most dynamic period in a human’s developmental life, there is a need for proper mentoring, grooming, and total inclusiveness.

 

To this note and with a long history of celebrating the Children, the Ikom Local Government Area has marked this year’s Children’s Day being one of the best with a match pass involving children from both private and public schools across the Local Government Area.

Addressing both Primary and Secondary School Children across the Local Government Area who came in their thousands, the Executive Chairman of Ikom Local Government Area, Hon. Pst. [Mrs] Mercy Nsor congratulated the children for their excellent display and brilliance throughout the event.

 

Hon. Nsor encouraged them to be respectful, disciplined and focused on their studies while urging them to shun negative behavior, undue peer pressure, cultism, internet fraud, and other societal vices. She thanked the parents and guardians as well as teachers who have remained pivotal in shaping the lives of young minds while also talking them out of bullying the children.

“As you celebrate Children’s Day today, I want to advise you all as a Mother, a Leader, and even a Grandmother to remain upright and forthcoming in your duties as children to your parents, society, and even yourself.

Unfortunately, we are witnessing a new trend of disrespect, truancy, and rascality among children these days with a shared arrogance, but as a Government, we are committed to your welfare, upbringing, and discipline,e, as well as the welfare of all.

In the midst of all these, I’m confident that the future of Ikom Local Government Area is prosperous as we are poised to raise a new breed of leaders who are disciplined, technologically, and logically exposed, you all represent where and what Ikom is, a place of realization, fulfillment of dreams and harmonization of purpose.

 

Our Administration will continue to prioritize education and personal development through sports and healthy talent competitions, arts and crafts exhibitions, and other advancing courses.

Let me also acknowledge the progress made by the Executive Governor of Cross River State, His Excellency Apostle Sen. [Prince] Bassey Edet Otu, and his dear Wife and First Lady of our great State, Her Excellency, Bishop [Mrs] Eyoanwan Edet Otu, for promoting our Children’s welfare through ensuring quality education, serene learning environment, empowerment programs amongst others. Indeed, we’re blessed as a State with the caliber of Leaders God has given to us, beginning from the federal level down to the local government level.

We have so much confidence in their capacity to always deliver good governance down to the grassroots.

Highlights of the event were match passes from various schools, entertainment, and dancing, amongst others. The best all-around school emerging as the winner in this year’s Children’s Day Celebration under the Nursery School Category was El-Gibbor Nursery School. PCN Ikom Town emerged Second while Divine International Nursery School Atimaka came Third. Under the Primary School Category, Holy Child Convent Primary School. First, Primary School Grass Field Second, and St. Martins Primary School emerged Third. For the Secondary Category, the famous Velos Secondary School emerged First, St. Patrick Secondary came Second, and Enoghi Secondary School came Third.

 

The Executive Chairman during the event was with the Vice Chairman, Leader of the Council, Secretary of the Council, Councillors, Supervisors, Political Appointees, Council Staff, Heads of the Military and Paramilitary, Traditional Rulers, Religious Leaders, Stakeholders, School Principals, Head Teachers, Staff of various Schools, and other very important dignitaries.
