Calabar Youths Celebrate President Russell M. Nelson on His 101st Birthday
The youths of the Calabar Coordinating Council have joined millions of Latter-day Saints around the world to celebrate President Russell M. Nelson, leader of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, on the occasion of his 101st birthday.
The celebration took place during the recently concluded For the Strength of Youth (FSY) Conference, held at the Federal Government Girls’ College, Calabar, where more than one thousand participants gathered in his honour.

The event was marked with music, flag-waving, and a special rendition of the hymn, “We Thank Thee, O God, for a Prophet,” as the youths expressed gratitude for the life and service of President Nelson.
One of the participants, Sister Rose Ukong-Ikwen Castro Ezama, who shares the same birthday with the Prophet, described the day as particularly meaningful. She praised President Nelson’s dedication to the Lord’s work and highlighted the blessings his leadership has brought to members in Nigeria.
“As the Prophet clocks 101 years, I begin to reflect on the blessings I gain from the revelations he has received for the Church,” she said. “For many years, it was difficult for members in my state to access the temple, as the nearest one was 164 kilometres away. But when President Nelson announced a new temple in our state during the October 2023 General Conference, my joy knew no bounds. I remain eternally grateful to him for listening to our spiritual needs.”
