Buhari would’ve saved the North from this mess, Tinubu not ready to complete any project in the northern region — Abubakar
In a significant development amidst ongoing political realignments in the northern region of the country, Abdul-Aziz Na’ibi Abubakar, media aide to Atiku Abubakar, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the 2023 presidential election, has voiced strong criticism against former President Muhammadu Buhari.
Abubakar accused Buhari of failing to develop the northern region during his tenure, leaving behind an unfulfilled legacy.
Taking to his verified X account, Abubakar expressed his dissatisfaction with the perceived regional disparities in project execution. He argued that the southwest region was the primary beneficiary of Buhari’s administration, which he believes has left the northern region in a state of neglect under Tinubu’s leadership.
Abubakar’s remarks come amid growing concerns and speculations that the current administration is overlooking crucial development projects in the north.
He highlighted several key infrastructure projects, including the AKK Gas Pipeline and the Abuja-Kaduna-Kano road, which he believes may remain incomplete under Tinubu’s tenure.
He also pointed to other significant initiatives, such as the Mambila Hydropower project, suggesting that these too might be sidelined.
He said: “Southwest benefited more from Buhari’s Presidency than any other region in Nigeria,” Abubakar wrote. “The north was expecting the same energy from Tinubu but with the way things are going, it seems even the AKK Gas pipeline & Abuja-Kaduna-Kano road can’t be completed under Tinubu, talk more of Mambila Hydro power & other important projects.”
“Buhari would’ve saved us from this ranting if he had been focused on delivering the most important projects that would boost our economy & wellbeing,” Abubakar concluded
FG refusal to address economic issues facing the North is unacceptable, nobody can marginalise us — Northern Elders Talk Tough
In another news, Northern Elders Forum has affirmed that the rest of the country will make a terrible mistake if it assumes that the current challenges around security and weak economy have turned the north into marginalised elements in the scheme of things in Nigeria.
Abdul-azeez Suleiman, the spokesman of the forum, stated this while delivering a speech at an induction ceremony at Zazzau School of Health Technology Tukur, Zaria.
He said the North would continue to play a significant role in the affairs of the nation; would remember those who stood by it and those who attempted to take advantage of the current challenges for their selfish gains.
Suleiman said It was evident that the current leaders and governments in place were either unable or unwilling to effectively tackle these problems.
He stated that many of the leaders seemed more interested in maintaining their power and wealth than in serving the people and improving the lives of the Northerners.
“This lack of commitment to addressing the basic socio-cultural and economic issues facing the North is unacceptable and must be challenged.
“The rest of the country will make a terrible mistake if it assumes that the current challenges around security and weak economy have turned the north into marginal elements in all calculations on the future of the nation.
“North will continue to play a significant role in the affairs of the nation; and we will remember those who stood by it and those who attempted to take advantage of the current challenges for their selfish gains,” he said.
He, however, admitted that the challenges facing the North were great, noting that with the right mindset and determination, it would be overcome.
While congratulating the students on their graduation, Suleiman tasked them to learn from the mistakes of the past, look ahead to the future, and work towards building a strong foundation for their generation.
He implored them to be proactive in addressing the challenges facing their communities ranging from poverty, insecurity to social injustice.
The NEF spokesman said by taking actions and working together, the youth can bring about real change and create a better future for all.
In her remarks, a lecturer at the Federal College of Education, Zaria, Dr. Rabi Bara’u, cautioned health students on japa syndrome.
She warned them against traveling out after graduation in search of greener pasture, stressing the importance of giving back to the community what they acquired from it.
Earlier, Mallam Abdulmumini Danladi Mohammed, the Provost of the School, said 32 students were inducted in the maiden programme.
He urged them to shun all forms of social vices and engaged themselves in productive learning for the development of society.
