A prominent political group in Nigeria’s North-East, the Coalition of APC Support Groups, has thrown its weight behind Yakubu Dogara, the former Speaker of the House of Representatives, endorsing him as the ideal running mate to President Bola Tinubu in the upcoming 2027 general elections.

The endorsement came during a well-attended meeting of the coalition in Gombe on Monday, where group leaders and supporters gathered to express confidence in Dogara’s political experience and national appeal.

In a communique issued after the meeting, the coalition emphasized Dogara’s unique qualifications, highlighting his “political pedigree” and broad acceptability across Nigeria’s diverse ethnic and religious landscape.

  “At a time such as this, when efforts are on to build a brighter Nigeria, unity and impactful political representation and religious harmony, Dogara is the most qualified person to lead,” the statement read.

The group also disclosed plans to send a delegation to Abuja to formally present their resolution to President Tinubu, urging him to consider Dogara as his vice-presidential candidate.

Dogara, who served as Speaker from 2015 to 2019, is widely regarded as a moderate and bridge-builder with influence in both the Christian and Muslim communities. His endorsement signals a strategic move by Northern APC stakeholders to solidify regional representation and bolster national unity ahead of the 2027 polls.
