BREAKING: Trump Reaches Out to Davido Ahead of Osun Governorship Election

Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has claimed that the United States government has reached out to him following his appeal to US President Donald Trump over the forthcoming Osun State governorship election.

Davido disclosed the development on Tuesday through his verified X account, shortly after calling on Trump and the international community to pay attention to the August 15 election.

In a post written partly in Pidgin English, the singer said: “Dem don reach out ooooo 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸😀😀😀😀 DEY PLAY! U think the rest of the world is undemocratic like Una! Una go seee wetin something.”

Davido, who is Nigerian-American, had earlier appealed directly to Trump over what he described as growing concerns surrounding the conduct of the Osun election.

In the message titled “A CALL FOR ATTENTION TO PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP,” Davido urged the US president to take note of developments in Osun State as the election approaches.

“President Donald Trump, I am calling your attention to the situation in Osun State, Nigeria, as we approach the election,” he wrote.

The singer expressed concern over the possibility of violence, intimidation and disruption of the electoral process, urging the United States and the international community to closely monitor the election.

He also called on Nigerian authorities to protect voters and ensure that their votes are counted and respected.

According to Davido, residents of Osun State should be allowed to exercise their constitutional right to vote freely, peacefully and without fear.

He further warned against bloodshed and intimidation, stressing the need for a peaceful, transparent and credible election.

News Week Nigeria had earlier reported that Davido threatened to involve President Trump if anything went wrong during the Osun governorship election.

The latest development comes amid heightened political tension ahead of the August 15 poll, with Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Peoples Democratic Party seeking re-election against the All Progressives Congress candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, and other contenders.

However, Davido’s post did not provide details about who specifically contacted him or the nature of the communication from the US government.

The claim has nonetheless generated fresh attention as political parties and stakeholders intensify preparations for the closely watched election.
