BREAKING: Northern Lawyer Drags Wike To Court

A northern lawyer, Barrister Abba Hikima, has initiated a lawsuit against the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, along with other key government officials and agencies.

The suit, filed in a federal court, names the Inspector General of Police (IGP), the Director of the Department of State Services (DSS), the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF), and the Federal Government as co-defendants.

Hikima is contesting policies and actions taken under Wike’s leadership that he claims unfairly target vulnerable groups such as scavengers, petty traders, and beggars within the FCT.

According to Hikima, these measures, including crackdowns on informal activities and stricter enforcement of urban regulations, have disproportionately impacted struggling Nigerians who rely on these trades for survival. “These policies are not only discriminatory but also violate the fundamental rights of many individuals trying to make an honest living under difficult circumstances,” Hikima argued in his court filing.

Wike, who assumed office as FCT Minister earlier this year, has vowed to restore order to the nation’s capital, implementing policies aimed at addressing urban management issues and beautification efforts. However, critics, including Hikima, contend that these initiatives often sideline the needs of the economically disadvantaged.

The lawyer is seeking judicial intervention to halt what he describes as unjust actions and to protect the livelihoods of those affected. He also calls for a review of policies to ensure they are more inclusive and fair to all residents of the FCT.

Efforts to reach the Minister’s office for a response were unsuccessful at the time of publication. Meanwhile, the defendants are expected to respond to the lawsuit in the coming weeks.
