BREAKING: Top Army General detained in Abuja over diversion of soldiers’ food, selling of military vehicles, others

 

 

A Brigadier General commanding a Nigerian Army Brigade in Kano State has been reportedly detained in a military police guardroom in Abuja over alleged theft.

 

A report by DAILY NIGERIAN said that the army top shot (name withheld by News Express) was arrested and detained “over diversion of rice palliatives, selling of military equipment, including generator sets and operational vehicles, to scrap yards.”

 

 

DAILY NIGERIAN quoted anonymous sources as disclosing that the Nigerian Defence Headquarters gave the rice to the brigades nationwide for distribution to soldiers as a palliative.

 

 

The portal said it gathered that the Defence Headquarters had distributed the rice on at least three occasions to Nigerian soldiers, according to nominal roll.

 

 

 

The embattled general, according to sources quoted by the portal, however shared only 5kg bags once to the soldiers and sold the remaining batches.

 

 

In addition, “the embattled general carted away equipment, including a MIKANO heavy-duty generator, at Military Training Camp, Falgore, Kano and sold them to metal scrap dealers.”

 

 

Following these allegations, the indicted General “has been detained in guardroom and is facing interrogation by the special investigation branch of military police in Abuja.

 

 

“He was first invited to Abuja for questioning, and immediately ordered to be locked in the military police guardroom. There are mounting allegations against him,” the report said.
