Tension in ADC as Peter Obi Finally Speaks on returning to PDP
Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has firmly denied rumours suggesting he is planning a return to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
In a statement issued on Tuesday, Obi described the reports as “unfounded” and reaffirmed his dedication to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition.

This clarification comes days after former Borno State Governor, Ali Modu Sheriff, made headlines during an interview on Arise Television, where he claimed that Obi was “on his way back to the PDP.”
Obi, however, wasted no time in debunking the statement, calling it “fake news” aimed at misleading the public and distracting from the real issues facing Nigerians.
“Let me be clear: I have no intention whatsoever of returning to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), or to any political formation that does not fully align with our movement’s progressive values and the aspirations of millions of Nigerians yearning for real change,” Obi stated.
He reiterated that his commitment remains with the Labour Party–ADC alliance, a coalition he described as “credible and people-focused,” driven by young Nigerians, reformers, and citizens determined to rescue the country from what he called “the grip of misgovernance.”

The former Anambra State governor emphasized that the coalition stands for justice, equity, accountability, and inclusive development. He called on supporters to ignore political distractions and instead focus on the vision of building a “new Nigeria.”
“This is not the time for political games or recycled narratives. It is time for unity, integrity, and a sincere commitment to the Nigerian project,” he added.
Obi, who garnered significant support in the 2023 general elections especially among the youth and urban voters, has remained vocal on national issues and continues to position himself as a key opposition figure ahead of the 2027 elections.
His latest statement seeks to silence speculation while reinforcing his alignment with alternative political platforms outside Nigeria’s traditional power blocs.
