Tambuwal Blasts EFCC, Declares Tinubu Has Failed, Vows APC Will Be Defeated in 2027
Former Sokoto State Governor and current Senator for Sokoto South, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, has vowed not to be cowed by what he described as “intimidation and blackmail” following his recent arrest and detention by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Tambuwal, who spent a night in EFCC custody over allegations of misappropriating N189 billion during his tenure as governor, returned to Sokoto on Thursday to a hero’s welcome from thousands of supporters.

Speaking at his residence, the former governor narrated how he voluntarily honoured EFCC invitations on August 6 and August 11, only to be subjected to what he called “unnecessary” and “demeaning” bail conditions.
“I was told to produce two Federal Civil Service directors with letters of introduction from their employers before I could be released. My lawyer pleaded for leniency, but they refused. I ended up spending the night in cell A23. By the grace of God and the prayers of the people, I met the conditions and was released,” he said.
Questioning the timing of his interrogation, Tambuwal linked it to political machinations aimed at tarnishing his image and weakening opposition forces. He accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of weaponizing anti-corruption agencies against perceived enemies while shielding its own members from scrutiny.

“Once you join the APC, your sins are forgiven,” he said pointedly. “But I will not be intimidated. No one can tarnish my record — from my years in the National Assembly to my eight years as governor, I have served this country faithfully.”
Turning his attention to President Bola Tinubu’s administration, Tambuwal accused the government of failing Nigerians through anti-people policies, lack of compassion, and disregard for federal character in appointments and projects.
“They think they cannot be beaten, but Nigerians are not fools. The election was rigged, and we will not allow that to happen again,” he declared.

He vowed to continue working with opposition leaders and democratic forces to ensure that “the will of the people prevails” in the 2027 general elections.
“Insha Allah, by 2027, we will end this misrule and misgovernance over our country,” he told the cheering crowd.
