The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the South-West has declared its support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The revelation was made on Monday by the Ogun State PDP chairman, Abayomi Tella, during the inauguration of the campaign council and official flag-off of the party’s campaign for the August 16 House of Representatives by-election in the Remo Federal Constituency.

Tella, addressing party leaders and supporters in Sagamu, said the PDP across the South-West has “unanimously agreed” to back President Tinubu, describing him as a “father of the nation” and a symbol of Yoruba pride.
He cited Tinubu’s South-West origin as the major reason for the regional PDP bloc’s decision to rally behind the incumbent president, despite him being a member of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
“We cannot deny our heritage. President Bola Tinubu is a son of the South-West and deserves our backing for another term. From 2027 to 2031, we believe it is important for our region to retain its place in the leadership of the country,” Tella said.

The by-election in Remo Federal Constituency, which covers Sagamu, Remo North, and Ikenne Local Government Areas, became necessary following the death of the Deputy Chief Whip of the House of Representatives, Hon. Adewunmi Oriyomi Onanuga, on January 15, 2025.
During the event, the PDP’s National Vice Chairman (South-West), Kamorudeen Ajisafe, officially handed over the party’s flag to its candidate, Bola Oluwole. Ajisafe announced that the South-West Zonal Secretariat of the PDP had been temporarily relocated to Ogun State to intensify coordination and ensure victory in the by-election.
“We are not taking this lightly. This constituency is strategic to us, and we are going all out to win. The relocation of our zonal office is symbolic of our commitment,” Ajisafe said.

Also speaking, the party’s 2023 governorship candidate in Ogun State, Oladipupo Adebutu, reiterated the PDP’s support for Tinubu’s re-election, linking it to the party’s broader desire to ensure a peaceful and credible electoral process in the upcoming by-election.
Bola Oluwole, the party’s standard-bearer, appealed to Governor Dapo Abiodun and the ruling APC to allow a free and fair election, warning against any form of electoral malpractice or intimidation.
“This constituency is PDP’s stronghold. We won here in 2023, even defeating the sitting governor in his own ward. We are confident of victory again,” Oluwole declared.
