Soludo Raises Alarm Over Plot to Rig Him Out, Says ‘Some Politicians Now Sleeping In INEC, Trying to Do Wuruwuru’

Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State has raised concerns over alleged plans by some politicians to compromise next month’s governorship election in the state.

Speaking on Monday during a panel discussion in Abuja themed “Innovation in Electoral Technology 2015–2025,” Soludo accused desperate politicians of “sleeping in the office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)” in a bid to influence the electoral umpire.

According to the governor, while his team is busy campaigning across the state, some political actors are scheming to manipulate the electoral process through backdoor dealings.

“Some politicians are sleeping in INEC, you know, because they don’t believe. While we are campaigning here, they are busy there,” Soludo said. “They don’t believe that people can just cast their votes, have them counted, and results announced. To them, there must be some wayo or some wuruwuru here and there.”

The governor, who once played a role in electoral reforms before joining active politics, expressed disappointment that despite the introduction of technology in elections, many politicians still cling to manipulative tactics instead of focusing on winning the trust of the people.

“I’ve had the privilege of being on the other side, designing and working on these systems. From where we are today, the difference is like night and day. But politicians need to do a lot more,” Soludo stated.

He urged stakeholders and political actors to embrace fair play, stressing that Nigeria’s democratic process can only grow stronger if elections are conducted transparently and without undue interference.

The Anambra governorship election is scheduled to hold next month, with INEC already assuring that technology will play a critical role in ensuring a credible process.
