As the opposition coalition intensifies efforts to unseat President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 general elections, former Minister of Sports, Bolaji Abdullahi, has been appointed as the interim National Publicity Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Abdullahi, a known loyalist of former Senate President Bukola Saraki, was named among other key interim leaders during the coalition’s latest announcement, signaling the formal kickoff of the group’s nationwide political campaign.

Political observers see Abdullahi’s emergence as a clear indication of Saraki’s involvement in the coalition. Saraki, a former Kwara State governor and Senate President, has remained influential in opposition politics since leaving office in 2019.

The coalition, made up of prominent opposition figures and former officeholders, had on Tuesday adopted the ADC as its official political platform. This move followed the collapse of earlier efforts to register a new party, the All Democratic Alliance (ADA), and failed negotiations with the Social Democratic Party (SDP).

According to sources close to the group, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)’s reluctance to register ADA prompted the coalition to re-engage the ADC leadership, culminating in the adoption of the party ahead of the 2027 elections.

Also announced among the new interim leaders are former Senate President David Mark as National Chairman and immediate past Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, as National Secretary.

The formal unveiling of the coalition under the ADC banner is scheduled to hold on Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. in Abuja, where more details on the coalition’s strategy and leadership structure are expected to be disclosed.
