BREAKING: Rivers State Administrator Resigns
Goodluck Ihemnacho, the administrator of Ahoada East Local Government Area in Rivers State, has officially tendered his resignation, marking the first major departure from the team of appointees installed by the state’s Sole Administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (retd.).
In a letter dated June 20 and now circulating widely on social media, Ihemnacho stated that his decision to step down was driven by a desire to return to the private sector.

He expressed gratitude to both the Rivers State Government and the people of Ahoada East for what he described as a fulfilling period of service from April 11 to July 20, 2025.
“I am thankful for the opportunity to serve and contribute to the growth of our local government. It has been an honour working alongside dedicated individuals committed to public service,” the letter read in part.
While the former administrator cited personal reasons for his resignation, political observers have suggested that his exit may be tied to plans to contest in the upcoming local government elections. However, no official statement has been made confirming his political intentions.

Ihemnacho was one of 23 local government administrators appointed by the Rivers State Government earlier this year amid ongoing leadership restructuring in the state’s political landscape.
His departure adds a layer of intrigue to the already tense political climate in Rivers, as the state prepares for local government polls.
