Peter Obi Reaffirms Commitment to ADC, Reveals How Tinubu’s Government Approach Him With “Juicy” Offers

Former Anambra State Governor and 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has restated his loyalty to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), declaring it the chosen platform for opposition leaders seeking to unseat the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027.

Speaking on Monday, Obi revealed that despite internal disagreements with the Labour Party, the opposition had resolved to rally under the ADC to present a united front.

He emphasised that the coalition’s goal was not just to gain political power, but to change the fortunes of Nigeria.

“We’re not uniting just to wrestle power—count me out if so. If it’s to change Nigeria’s fortune, yes. I’m not desperate for the presidency, but for a changed Nigeria,” Obi stated.

The former governor stressed that his political ambition was rooted in a desire to see Nigeria function effectively, drawing on his experiences in countries where governance works.

Obi also revealed that President Bola Tinubu’s government had offered him “juicy” incentives to abandon his opposition stance, but he refused.

“I was offered much by government, but no. Someone asked if I’m being paid—sister, I live here, so no,” he said.

While acknowledging that there was “nothing wrong” with the Labour Party as an institution, Obi criticised what he described as its descent into “transactional politics,” a style of politics he firmly rejects.

He predicted that more political heavyweights would join the ADC-led coalition before the 2027 elections, adding that the platform had been unanimously adopted by opposition leaders as the most credible vehicle for challenging APC dominance.

“I assure you, before 2027, more will join as opposition unites,” Obi declared.
