PDP Losing Ground in Cross River North As Serving Lawmakers Defect to APC
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is facing a significant setback in Cross River North Senatorial District, as two prominent serving lawmakers have left the party to join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
BREAKING: Cross River’s Only PDP Senator, Jarigbe, Speaks On Joining APC
The defections were officially announced on Friday when the Speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Elvert Ayambem, welcomed Hon. Martins Achadu and Hon. Brian Odey, along with their supporters, into the APC fold.
Hon. Martins Achadu, who represents Yala 2 State Constituency, made his switch during an event in Ijiraga ward. Speaker Ayambem hailed Achadu’s defection as a strategic move for the party, describing it as a key moment for the APC and the state’s People’s First Administration.
“This defection marks a turning point for our party, as we continue to build a stronger and more dynamic political force to meet the needs of Cross Riverians,” Ayambem said.
Shortly afterward, Hon. Brian Odey of Yala 1 State Constituency also defected, joining the APC in Yahe Ward. Speaker Ayambem expressed his excitement over Odey’s decision, remarking that it not only brings personal satisfaction but is also a victory for the APC. “His dedication and commitment to his constituents will undoubtedly contribute to the growth and success of our party,” Ayambem noted.
The Speaker emphasized that these defections signal growing confidence in the APC’s leadership and vision for the future of Cross River State. He called the APC a “big and welcoming family,” expressing optimism that the party’s strengthened position would help deliver on its promises to the people.
Ayambem further urged other political leaders in the state to consider joining the APC, highlighting its focus on inclusive governance and sustainable development. “We need more hands to work together in ensuring that Cross River State reaches its full potential,” he stated.
As PDP continues to lose influential members, the defection of Achadu and Odey represents a potential shift in the political landscape of Cross River North, putting the APC in a stronger position ahead of future elections.
