The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expelled the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike; former Ekiti State governor, Ayodele Fayose; and former National Secretary of the party, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, in a dramatic twist at its ongoing national convention in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The motion for their expulsion was moved by Chief Olabode George, former National Vice Chairman (South) of the party, and was immediately seconded by Hon. Samaila Burga, Chairman of the PDP in Bauchi State.
The decision comes amid heightened internal crisis and weeks of tension between the main PDP leadership and the faction loyal to Wike. Ahead of the convention, Wike’s faction had made several attempts to stop the exercise through legal action. However, the party secured a favourable ruling from an Oyo State High Court, clearing the way for the convention to proceed as planned.

In the buildup to the event, Mao Ohuabunwa, Chairman of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Wike-led faction, dismissed the Ibadan convention as illegal and “a jamboree,” insisting that any delegate travelling for the gathering was merely going on a relaxation trip, as the exercise “would not be recognized by law.”
He recalled that Anyanwu had already issued a circular announcing a postponement of the convention, arguing that the party must comply with court decisions.
> “Ibadan is a public place; people can go for anything but not for convention,” Ohuabunwa said. “Anyone going there in the name of convention should consider it a jamboree. We won’t tolerate flagrant abuse of the constitution.”

The faction’s acting national chairman, Abdulrahman Muhammad, also urged members to boycott the Ibadan meeting, assuring them that the group was committed to repositioning the PDP at the national level.
> “All delegates across the country should stay away from the Ibadan convention. We are focused on moving the PDP forward and will continue mobilizing members nationwide,” Muhammad said.
Reacting earlier to the crisis, Wike praised his supporters for standing firm, insisting that his camp would always uphold the rule of law. He vowed not to betray members who believe in due process and the party’s constitution.

“I will continue to support you. I won’t betray you,” Wike assured his loyalists.
The expulsion marks one of the most significant escalations in the PDP’s long-running internal power struggle, deepening the rift between the established national leadership and the influential Wike-led faction.
As the Ibadan convention continues, political observers are watching closely to see how this development may reshape the party’s future ahead of upcoming electoral battles.
