PDP Draws Battle Line with Akpabio, Demands Natasha’s Immediate Resumption
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has clashed with Senate President Godswill Akpabio over the suspension of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, urging her to prepare to resume her legislative duties.
In a statement issued on Monday by its National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, the opposition party condemned what it described as a “calculated plot” to silence the lawmaker representing Kogi Central Senatorial District.
The PDP accused the Clerk of the National Assembly of acting under the influence of the Akpabio-led All Progressives Congress (APC) leadership to prevent Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan from reclaiming her seat, despite the expiration of her six-month suspension.
According to the party, the move amounts to an attempt to deprive the people of Kogi Central of their constitutionally guaranteed representation at the Senate.
“The PDP calls on the international community, democracy institutions, rights advocacy groups, and other democracy development partners to rise up in condemnation of this renewed attack on Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan,” the statement read.
The opposition further demanded that the Senate leadership immediately allow Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan to resume plenary without hindrance, stressing that no arm of government has the power to deny an elected lawmaker the right to represent her constituents.
With this latest development, the PDP has effectively drawn a battle line with Akpabio, setting the stage for a fresh round of political confrontation in the upper chamber.
