Over 800,000 PDP, APC Members Join ADC in Rivers as Two Former Governors, Political Heavyweights Regroup
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Rivers State says its membership has surged past 800,000, following a wave of high-profile defections from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Speaking at a weekend press conference in Port Harcourt, ADC state spokesman Luckyman Egila described the party as “a beautiful bride” attracting prominent politicians ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Egila confirmed that two former governors of Rivers State — Rotimi Amaechi and Celestine Omehia — have formally joined the ADC, alongside several other political heavyweights.
Also among the new entrants are Prince Uche Secondus, former National Chairman of the PDP; former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Chief Austin Okpara; and former Minister of Transport, Dr. Abiye Sekibo.
“These persons have left their former parties and are now full members of the ADC,” Egila said. “And you can only become a member of a party when you have registered with that party and been issued a membership card. So all of them are now fully registered ADC members.”

He stressed that the influx of such influential figures signals a major political realignment in the state, adding that the ADC is now positioning itself as a formidable force in the lead-up to 2027.
“The names I have mentioned are all key politicians in Rivers State, and you can’t write these people off,” he added.
The mass defection marks one of the most significant political shifts in Rivers politics in recent years, setting the stage for intense battles in the coming election cycle.
