Nigeria Reacts To Allegations of Destabilisation Plot Against Niger Republic
The Federal Government of Nigeria has strongly denied accusations from Niger Republic, which claimed that Nigeria is involved in a plot to destabilize the country.
The allegations surfaced following the December 13, 2024, attack on the Niger-Benin oil pipeline in Gaya, located in Niger’s Dosso Region. Nigerien authorities alleged that the Lakurawa terrorist group, purportedly aided by foreign security forces, including Nigerian personnel, was behind the attack.

In a swift rebuttal, Nigeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement on Saturday, signed by its acting spokesperson, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, categorically rejecting the claims.
“The Government of Nigeria expresses condolences to the Government of Niger over the unfortunate attack on the oil pipeline but reiterates that the perpetrators were neither supported nor assisted by Nigerian authorities,” the statement read.
The Nigerian government emphasized its unwavering commitment to combating terrorism and made it clear that it would not support or condone the activities of terrorist groups.

Furthermore, the statement dismissed additional claims that French military forces stationed in northern Nigeria were preparing to destabilize Niger’s government. “These allegations are unfounded and should be entirely dismissed,” it stated.
The Ministry highlighted the cordial and cooperative relationship between Nigeria and France, describing it as one based on mutual respect, dignity, and a policy of non-interference in domestic affairs.
The Nigerian government reiterated its dedication to maintaining peaceful and amicable relations with Niger Republic, stressing that such cooperation benefits the citizens of both nations.
