Alhaji Jafaru Makarfi, a respected Islamic leader and retired public servant, has passed away at the age of 93.
He died on Saturday night in Kaduna.
The death was announced by Alhaji Suleman Abdulkadir, the Garkuwan Zazzau, in a statement on behalf of the family.
The funeral prayer for the deceased will take place at 1:00 PM on Sunday at Sultan Bello Mosque in Kaduna.
Makarfi was a key figure in the Nigerian Muslim community, having served as Chairman of the Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI) in the state.
He also held the position of Commissioner in the former Kaduna State.
A veteran of the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC), Makarfi joined the corporation in 1950 and enjoyed a distinguished career that spanned more than 40 years.
“He was the first Northerner to hold the position of District Superintendent in the Western District of the NRC. The funeral prayer will be held tomorrow at 1 PM at the Sultan Bello Mosque, Kaduna.
“Makarfi is survived by six children. We extend our condolences to his family, friends, the JNI, and the entire Muslim community,” the statement read in part.
