Major Shake-Up in Aso Rock as Tinubu Sacks Shettima’s Aide
A quiet but significant shake-up has hit the Presidency following the dismissal of Fegho John Umunubo, Special Assistant on Digital and Creative Economy to President Bola Tinubu in the Office of the Vice President.
The termination of Umunubo’s appointment was confirmed on Monday in a statement signed by Abiodun Oladunjoye, Director of Information and Public Relations at the State House.

His disengagement, the statement noted, takes immediate effect.
“Stakeholders and constituents of the digital and creative economy, at home and abroad, as well as the general public are hereby notified that Fegho John Umunubo, who hitherto had served as the Special Assistant to the President on Digital and Creative Economy (Office of the Vice President), has been disengaged with immediate effect,” the statement read.
While no official explanation was given for the sudden decision, the presidency cautioned stakeholders and members of the public against engaging with Umunubo in any capacity on behalf of the administration.

The move came only days after Umunubo had publicly reaffirmed his loyalty to Vice President Kashim Shettima and the Tinubu administration, calling on Nigerians to support the government’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Reacting shortly after the announcement, Umunubo took to Instagram, where he shared a screenshot of the official release along with a brief note: “It has been my honor to serve this country and the Creative Industry. Now I am free to fly.”
The dismissal has sparked speculation within political and creative industry circles, with some interpreting it as part of broader adjustments in the presidency ahead of new policy directions.
