BREAKING: Labour Party Chases Governor Alex Otti From Party

The Labour Party has indefinitely suspended Abia State Governor Alex Otti and five other prominent members over alleged anti-party activities, signaling deepening rifts within the party’s national leadership.

The suspension, which takes immediate effect, was ratified by the National Executive Council (NEC) following the submission of a report by a five-member Disciplinary Committee established on May 2.

Those affected include Senators Darlington Nwokocha and Ireti Kingibe, as well as House of Representatives members Victor Afam Ogene, Amobi Ogah, and Seyi Sowunmi.

In a statement signed by the party’s National Secretary, Umar Farouk Ibrahim, the NEC said the decision followed “exhaustive deliberation” and was in accordance with the party’s constitution.

“Consequent upon that, the following members of the party have been suspended from the party and all its activities, indefinitely and with immediate effect,” the statement read, listing the six individuals.

The Labour Party emphasized that the action was based on findings by the disciplinary panel headed by Deputy National Chairman Dr. Ayo Olorunfemi, which investigated accusations of conduct deemed detrimental to the party’s unity and interests.

In a separate clarification, the party addressed speculation regarding Nenadi Usman, a known supporter of the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential campaign. The party stated that Usman was never a registered member and, therefore, not subject to internal disciplinary measures.

The statement went further, accusing her of lacking moral authority to speak on corruption, referencing alleged dealings with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and unverified claims about personal assets.

Meanwhile, in a clear signal of its strategic direction, the Labour Party reiterated its decision to contest the 2027 general elections independently, dismissing the possibility of alliances or coalitions.

“Labour Party intends to prosecute the 2027 general election as a stand-alone party and no further discussion will be entertained on this matter,” the statement concluded.

The development marks a significant moment for the Labour Party, once hailed for its internal cohesion and rising popularity, now confronting internal dissent at the highest levels of governance.
