BREAKING: Kano LG Chairman Sacks Secretary, Four Others Over Alleged Support for Tinubu

The Chairman of Kabo Local Government Area of Kano State, Hon. Lawan Najume Kabo, has dismissed the council secretary and four other political appointees over their alleged involvement in a political support group sympathetic to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Deputy Senate President, Senator Barau I. Jibrin.

Sources within the local government told our correspondent that the five officials were relieved of their appointments on Monday following allegations that they belonged to the Tinubu Maliya Shonikan Support Group.

Those affected reportedly include the council secretary and four other appointees serving in various capacities within the local government administration.

The dismissals come amid growing political realignments and mobilisation across Kano State ahead of the 2027 general elections, with various political groups and supporters increasingly positioning themselves for the next electoral cycle.

Sources said the decision has sparked reactions among political actors and supporters in Kabo, particularly over the alleged involvement of the affected officials in a political support group outside the council’s local political structure.

As of the time of filing this report, however, the council chairman had not issued an official statement explaining the reasons for the dismissals.

The affected officials have also yet to publicly respond to their removal or the allegations linking them to the support group.

A senior council official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the chairman was concerned about maintaining discipline, loyalty and unity of purpose within his administration.

The source, however, did not disclose whether the affected officials were given an opportunity to respond to the allegations before their appointments were terminated.

The development is expected to heighten political discussions in Kabo and across Kano State as political parties and support groups intensify mobilisation and begin positioning their structures ahead of the 2027 elections.
