The Tanimu Turaki-led faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has confirmed that former President Goodluck Jonathan remains a registered member of the party under its leadership, insisting that he recently participated in its ongoing digital membership registration exercise amid growing political speculation ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The faction made the clarification on Saturday while reacting to a wave of campaign posters circulating on social media, which it described as fake and misleading. The posters allegedly linked the former president to different political parties and, in some cases, portrayed him either as a presidential candidate or as a running mate to other prominent political figures.
In a statement issued by the faction’s National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, the group warned Nigerians to disregard what it called deliberate attempts to misrepresent Jonathan’s political affiliation and status within the PDP.

The statement, titled “Beware of Fake GEJ Campaign Posters,” noted that the materials making rounds online falsely suggest that the former president has alignment with multiple political platforms ahead of the next election cycle.
“Campaign posters bearing the photographs of President Goodluck Jonathan, either alone or paired with other notable Nigerians as running mate, have emerged and are being circulated widely on social media platforms,” the faction said.
It further maintained that the visuals being shared were not authorised and did not reflect the current political standing of the former Nigerian leader.

According to the faction, Jonathan remains firmly within the PDP structure under the leadership of Barr. Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, adding that he recently completed the party’s digital membership registration process as part of ongoing internal reforms.
“We state categorically that President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan is a registered member of the Peoples Democratic Party under the capable leadership of Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, SAN,” the statement read.
The group also disclosed that Jonathan personally carried out his registration at the ward level during the exercise and later confirmed the process to members of the Interim National Working Committee during a recent engagement.

Beyond clarifying Jonathan’s political status, the faction raised concerns about what it described as potential attempts to manipulate party records ahead of future elections. It warned that some individuals might be planning to unlawfully register prominent politicians across multiple parties without their consent.
Citing the provisions of the Electoral Act, the faction stressed that double registration is illegal and punishable under Nigerian law, urging strict compliance with electoral guidelines.
“This clarification has become necessary in view of the provisions of the extant Electoral Act, under which double registration is not only prohibited but also punishable,” it added.
The statement also called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and members of the public to remain vigilant and disregard any suspicious political registrations or materials linked to the former president.
The PDP faction further urged electoral authorities to monitor and prevent any attempt to falsify party membership data, warning that such actions could undermine the integrity of the electoral process.
As political discussions continue to intensify ahead of 2027, the clarification is expected to further fuel debate around Jonathan’s role in national politics and his standing within the PDP.
